Nautical Stripes

28 Feb

I’ve really been lacking inspiration recently, apart from the holiday January and February have been pretty tough months and motivation has been at an all time low. Saying all that though, these nails are almost enough to bring me out of my slump, I’m really happy with them. They were a bit fiddly, striping tape and small lines are so time consuming!

What do you think!?

Polishes used:
Barry M – Nude
Barry M – Navy
Barry M – Cobalt Blue
Essie – Lapiz of Luxury

Grey Waterfalls

24 Feb

Next up in the list of techniques I’ve been wanting to try for a while are these waterfall nails. I’ve seen hundreds of variants of this look since the Nailasaurus first posted Waterfall Nail Tutorial. It took me a while to decide on the colour scheme, and the photos haven’t turned out as well as I’d have liked -the silver just seemed to disappear with use of the flash! Nevertheless I quite like these ones and it’s another technique that I’ll be adding to the list of those to experiment with more!

Polishes used:
O.P.I – I Have A Herring Problem
China Glaze – Stone Cold
Maybelline – Silver Speed
Barry M – Black

Distressed Nails

21 Feb

There’s a few techniques I’ve been wanting to try out for a while, and this distressed technique from Chalkboard Nails is one of them.  I finally got round to trying it! It’s really simple and a very forgiving technique!!  I left the gold polish until last as I figured it was the lightest but it totally swamped the rest of the design, but it was so easily recoverable by just going back over with a couple of the other colours.

What do you think?  I’m looking forward to playing around with this technique and different colours!

Polishes used:

  • w7 – Sunstone
  • Barry M – Navy
  • Barry M – Guava

(Not) Spring Flowers

19 Feb

I am ready for Spring already!!  There’s been a glimmer of sunshine here today and I’ve got fresh tulips in my house….c’mon Spring, hurry up!

I haven’t done a floral mani for a while and whilst in my Springtime mood I thought I’d have a stab at one – it’s not really a complicated look, just a few flowers and dots made with a dotting tool.  The stripes in the background took forever, placing the striping tape was a mission!

Honey, I’m Home!

17 Feb

I’m back!! Wow, it’s been a while!!  South Africa was an amazing holiday, I had a brilliant time and it’s taken me a little time to get back to reality hence no posting for a while!!  I’m now firmly routed back in my daily routine and blog posts will be forthcoming once more!!

If anyone is interested in my holiday to SA I’ll be posting a few piccies elsewhere on the internets and I’ll share a link when I’ve done that!

Now, I’ve been finding it really hard to adjust to the stark reality of the British weather once more, two weeks ago I was in 38 degree sunshine in lovely South Africa and now I’m in the world of rain, wind, floods and landslides…to say I’m not happy about it is an understatement!!  As such I’ve been keeping my nails deliberately bright and cheerful to try and bring a little sunshine into my life!

Here’s my rainbow gradient bordered mani!!  It was really fun to create, sponging on all the different colours.  This is also the most successful border mani I’ve ever done! Hurrah!!

Twinny Wedding Nails!

6 Feb

My twin brother (who I see as my little brother as I’m the all important 3 minutes older!) is getting married whilst we’re over here in Africa and obviously I had to paint my nails fitting to the occasion!!  My dress is quite simple, a pale coral colour with cut out lace work on the top portion so I’ve just kept my nails subtle and understated to go with this.

I used a nude basecoat and then stamped over with a white polish using one of my Konad plates in a similar(ish) pattern to the lacework.

Right…time to go celebrate gaining a new member of the family!!
