Irregular Choice Nails!

28 Jun

We’re going to another wedding this weekend so I’m taking a little break from the challenge for some more wedding nails!!  My favourite shoes in the whole world are Irregular Choice, they’re gorgeous, different and amazingly comfy for heels!!  I’m going to wear my favourite pair this weekend and I’ve done my nails to match!

I started with a base coat of mint green then sponged on a gradient with a yellow and gold.  I then finished the look by stamping over a floral pattern in gold with Konad plate M73.

I love these!!

Polishes used:

  • Barry M – mint green
  • Revlon – Buttercup
  • Nails Inc – Lanesborough Place

Day 16 – Colour Opposites

27 Jun

Okay, so I’ve just realised that I completely forgot to post a day from this challenge!! I did these late last week, but took them off almost immediately and replaced them with my fishtail nails as I thought they were a bit bright!

For my colour opposites I chose pink and black, which aren’t strictly opposites but I didn’t want to do black and white again and none of the other colour combos really appealed to me.  I decided to do a sort of sun-burst mani with these ones using my nail art pen and freehanding the half-moons and stripes.  I wasn’t too unhappy with these and will definitely try this look with some other more subtle colours in the future!

Polishes used:

  • Nails Inc – Phoenix Place
  • Barry M Nail Art Pen in Black
  • Base coat & Top coat – Sally Hansen Double Duty

Day 17 – New Technique

25 Jun

I’ve been wanting to try a ‘fishtail’ mani for ages so figured this day of the challenge was as good as any to give it a go!  I was pleasantly surprised by how easy this was, even though it took a bit of time due to having to wait between each ‘layer’ for the polish to dry enough so that the next layer didn’t drag through it.  I’m also pretty pleased with how neat it turned out given that it was all done free hand with the brushes from the polishes rather than a striping brush.

I’ll definitely be giving this another go and think it would look really nice with some metallic polishes in it.

I started doing this one quite late at night so couldn’t be bothered to do all of my nails so finished off the other nails with a coat of glitter to match the base coat.

Polishes used:

  • China Glaze – Custom Kicks (this one stains so badly so I can expect my nails to have a yellow tint to them after this mani, even though I used a base coat!)
  • Barry M – Navy
  • M & S – Dark Magenta
  • Barry M – Amethyst Glitter
  • Basecoat – Sally Hansen Double Duty
  • Topcoat – China Glaze Fast Forward

Day 15 – Watercolour

20 Jun

Okay, so this isn’t technically a watercolour mani, but it did use water and it is also colourful!! I kind of cheated with this one by doing a watermarble rather than a watercolour, but in my defence water marbling is HARD so it hardly felt like cheating! I just don’t really like the idea of watercolour manis but maybe I’ve never seen any that really appeal to me yet – I remain open minded!!

I’m definitely getting better at watermarbling and am pretty pleased with these nails! I particularly like the colours and will definitely use these again!! I am so pleased that Peacock worked in a watermarble as it’s one of my favourite colours!

For some reason, known only to me, I decided not to tape my nails off before watermarbling this time – partly out of laziness, and partly through being a little bit too confident about my skills!! OH MY GOD, it took AGES to clean up afterwards!! I have learnt my lesson well and truly!

Polishes used:

  • Barry M – Mint Green
  • Barry M – Spring Green
  • Models Own – Peacock

Day 14 – Stamping

18 Jun

I love stamping, it’s so simple and looks like you’ve done something really complicated!! I love it when people are amazed by my nails after stamping a pattern on them, and I get to feel smug at how simple it was!!

I went with one of my favourite stamps for this which is a rose pattern from one of my Konad plates (possibly M65?).  I used one of my red polishes from Rimmel for this one.  I haven’t stamped with it before but will definitely use it again.

Polishes used:

  • Nails Inc – Mayfair (pearly white/cream)
  • Rimmel – Red (shimmery red)

Day 13 – Cheer Yourself Up

16 Jun

Nothing makes me happier than two lovely colours blended together in a gradient! Well….maybe that’s an over exaggeration, but I do love gradients because they’re so simple to do but can look really pretty too.

I went with a pink and grey for this one, and I love how the grey looks almost lilac over the pink. This isn’t the best gradient I’ve done, it could have probably used another coat but I still like it.

Day 12 – Tape

12 Jun

I just did something pretty simple again for this one, I haven’t got a lot of time for my nails at the moment so I’m just doing what I can when I can!

I started with a base coat of Nails Inc Lanesborough Place. Once that had dried I taped triangles at my tips and painted over in China Glaze Stone Cold.

I finished the look with some dots in the same colours and a matte top coat.
